Uam Historic Park
A park built around Namganjeongsa, where the scholar Song Si-yeol taught his students.
Uam Historic Park surrounds the place where the great late-Joseon scholar Song Si-yeol (1607–1689) studied and taught disciples in his later years. Inside the park, Namganjeongsa is a remarkable building where a stream flows beneath the wooden hall into a pond, blending nature and architecture. A shrine, lecture hall and woodblock storage hall were added later, giving the park the atmosphere of a Confucian academy.
With cherry blossoms in spring and red leaves in autumn, it is also one of Daejeon's favourite walking spots.
The Confucian Connection
Song Si-yeol, a disciple of Kim Jang-saeng and Kim Jip, led Neo-Confucian thought and politics in late Joseon. His influence was so great that he was honoured as "Songja" (Master Song), and traces of his scholarship remain here.
