Choryeo Yi Yu-tae Historical Park
Meet Yi Yu-tae, a scholar of rites who carried on the teachings of Kim Jang-saeng and Kim Jip.
Choryeo Yi Yu-tae Historical Park in Sejong commemorates the late-Joseon scholar Yi Yu-tae (1607–1684), known by the pen name Choryeo. A scholar of the Giho school, he studied under Kim Jang-saeng and his son Kim Jip, and was a "sallim" scholar who put learning and self-cultivation ahead of office. He was well versed in the study of rites and is also known for writing a family code setting out how members of his household should live.
Walk through the park and get a feel for a scholar's life that valued both learning and practice.
The Confucian Connection
Yi Yu-tae inherited Kim Jang-saeng's line of learning from Donam Seowon and, with Song Si-yeol and Song Jun-gil, led Chungcheong's scholarly community. He was a scholar of righteousness who never bent his principles.
