Daejeon Byeolseo, Confucian Ritual Culture Hall

A hanok complex where you can stay overnight and experience traditional Confucian rites first-hand.

Daejeon Byeolseo is a Confucian ritual culture hall in Dong-gu, Daejeon, designed so visitors can see, learn and take part in traditional rites inside a hanok setting. It introduces the coming-of-age, wedding and ancestral rites that Joseon scholars observed at each stage of life, adapted for today's visitors. With a wide courtyard, an open wooden hall and neat guest rooms, simply staying here gives a feel for daily life in a scholar's household.

Programmes and accommodation may change by season, so please check the official information before you visit.

The Confucian Connection

In Confucianism, ye (禮, propriety) was something you learned with your body, not just your mind. Daejeon Byeolseo turns the rites found in old texts into experiences you can actually try.
