Ieung Bridge (Geumgang Pedestrian Bridge)

A ring-shaped bridge like the Hangeul letter "ㅇ" — Sejong City's new place to stroll.

Ieung Bridge is a circular pedestrian bridge over the Geumgang River in Sejong City; its official name is Geumgang Pedestrian Bridge. It is nicknamed after the Hangeul consonant "ㅇ" (ieung) because of its round shape. One lap of the bridge is 1,446 m long, in honour of 1446, the year King Sejong proclaimed Hunminjeongeum (the Korean alphabet).

The upper deck is for walking and the lower deck for cycling, so you can take in the river and the city at your own pace — sunset and night views are especially beautiful.

The Confucian Connection

King Sejong's love for his people, shown by creating an alphabet for them, was the ideal of Confucian government. Just as scholars of old strolled by the river, this is where that leisurely spirit continues in a modern city.
