Okryugak Pavilion
A pavilion perched over a mountain stream, built by disciples in memory of Song Jun-gil.
Okryugak is a Joseon-era pavilion in a valley at Biraedong, on the slopes of Gyejoksan Mountain in Daejeon. It is said that after Song Jun-gil passed away, his disciples and descendants built it at the stream he loved, in memory of their teacher. It stands on pillars set over a stream running between the rocks, and true to its name ("jade stream") it is a calm place to rest to the sound of clear water.
It connects to the Gyejoksan walking trails and pairs well with a visit to Dongchundang.
The Confucian Connection
The pavilion embodies disciples who wanted to keep the place where their teacher's lessons lived on. It reflects the scholarly culture that valued loyalty between teacher and student.
