Sejong · Righteousness (義) Janggun-myeon, Sejong
Kim Jong-seo Historical Theme Park
A park honouring Kim Jong-seo, the loyal minister who protected the boy-king Danjong to the end.
Kim Jong-seo Historical Theme Park is built around the tomb area of Kim Jong-seo (1383–1453) in Janggun-myeon, Sejong. Under King Sejong, Kim was the general who established the Six Garrisons in the north and pushed the border outward, and also a scholar who helped compile the History of Goryeo. After King Munjong died he served the young King Danjong, but in 1453 he was killed by Prince Suyang's faction in the Gyeyu Coup.
The park lets you trace his life and achievements and reflect on the meaning of loyalty.
The Confucian Connection
Kim Jong-seo, who stood by his king even against overwhelming power, is a symbol of ui (義, righteousness) — the scholar's duty to hold to what is right. That is why the Sejong course is the course of "Righteousness".
